Chat No.1

  April 26th 1998

<Doris>You are a bit early folks, Martin will log in in about 10 minutes. Well Martin, whenever you're ready let us know.
<Martin> Hi guys, how are you?
<Doris> Hey, so glad to see you. We are fine, hope this will be great.
<Martin> How is the weather?
<Doris> Looks great.
<Tim> Hi, how are you? Internet is a crazy thing.
<Martin> How is Ingrid doing? Hi Tim, nice to meet you, where are you from?
<Tim> So what do you think about this chatroom, Martin? I'm from Bielefeld, Germany, do you know it?
<Martin> Tim must have gone but this is fab.
<Maike> Hi there, I'm early too.
<Doris> So if nobody has a question we will start, how was the filming for 'The Bill'?
<Nicole> Hello, I'm Nicole from Holland.
<Maryam> Mr Kemp, is Gary doing anything special now?
<Martin> It was really good, it was the first time I have ever done this show and it was fun.The chatroom is going to be great, I will be here a lot more often, so always try it out. Gary is making some music for a couple of movies and he's in the middle of writing a musical for the stage.
<Maike> What show did you do, I'm not up to date.
<Martin> Hi Maike, how are you?
<Maryam> I see, so there is no new album?
<Martin> I did a show in England called 'The Bill'.
<Tim> Martin, who will win the world championship? (sorry girls)
<Martin> Arsenal will win the league, Tim, but England will do fine at the championships. I don't know if Gary has any plans for an album but the songs are fab as you can imagine.
<Esther> Martin, I come from Barcelona and I have been in some of the concerts you gave there. What do you think of Spanish audiences?
<Martin> I think the Spanish fans are fantastic, all the latin countries are superb. I love Barcelona, how is the weather and have you seen Steve Norman anywhere?
<Marianne/Sandra> Hi Martin, Sandra and Marianne from Holland welcomes you all.
<Barb> Good afternoon from the States - hi Martin.
<Martin> Hi Barb, where are you from?
<Barb> I'm from Maryland, right outside DC.
<Marianne/Sandra> Martin, when can we see you on Dutch tv, we miss you too.
<Martin> Doris and Ingrid tell me that a couple of my films have been on Dutch tv but I have to say that they were the dodgy ones.
<Britta> Hi Mr Kemp, how are you?
<Martin> I'm really well.....a little bit drunk from after lunch, but apart from that really well!
<Gold> Hi Martin
<Martin> Hi Gold, what's your name?
<Gold> Martin, I'm Daniele, Arben's friend who helped him create the Spandau site :)
<Martin> Yes, I have been there quite a few times, it has really grown. Where is Arben?
<Maryam> I am doing some translation for it from Italian, hope we can finish it soon. Have u tried his chatroom, it is cool!
<Esther> I'm also doing the Spanish translation for Arben's homepage.
<Sapphire> Hi Martin, I just wanted to say that I thought you were great when you were with Spandau Ballet and I've been following your career since and I still think you are great.
<Martin> Hi Britta nice to have you on the site...got any questions you wanna ask?
<Maryam> Have u tried his chatroom, it is cool!
<Martin> Sandra and Mariam....How are you...excuse my spelling
<Nicole> Hello Mr. Kemp, this chatroom is great !!!
<Marianne/Sandra> It's Marianne love, but I"ll forgive you. Thanks for your lovely email to me about Tony's site, I really loved it.
<Martin> I haven't tried his chat room but I will see you all there at the same time tomorrow if you want?
< Gold> Martin, are there any unreleased songs and demos? Will they ever be released?
<Tim> To everyone: where and when was the first Spandau gig in Germany? - so Martin let us know ...
<Maryam> What was your favourite song(s) from Spandau?
<Martin> Hi Gold...There are some unreleased demos that no one has ever heard...That's a good idea about getting them released....maybe I should follow that up
<Doris> By the way, sorry Mart, this has nothing to do with you, but maybe all Spandau fans from Belgium and Holland would like to know that Tony is playing in Leuven next Thursday ... but hey, you are invited too!!!
<Marianne/Sandra> Hi Martin, what are you doing at the moment, apart from chatting with us?
<Gold> I think the fans would love to hear those tracks, Martin. It would be like hearing new songs.
<Nicole> Martin, is Spandau ever thinking of giving a concert again in the future ?
<Maryam> What is your favourite song(s) of Spandau?
<Maike> Martin, I would be particularily(how do you write this???) interested in the last song Spandau has recorded, "The Boxer".
<Doris> Yes, yes ,yes, get those demos released ... and if we only sell them via the club, that's no problem!!!
<Martin> Marrianne..I am working hard trying to get my own projects off the ground...I will be able to tell you more very shortly....but I am superstitious and hate talking about things before there are definite
<Gold> Have you ever been to Canada, Martin?
<Martin> Nicole...There is nothing I would rather do than to play again with the band on stage..but there are a few things stopping us doing that at the moment.
<Maike> Barb, I heard you can buy "Magic Hunter" one of Gary´s films in the US, which to my knowledge is still not for sale in Europe...
<Maryam> Yes, Magic Hunter is around, except it is in Southern California.
<Martin> Marryanne...My fav song of all time was Through the barricades...and I never could spell that word.
<Esther> Martin, I hate to ask this but, what are those things to stop you to play again together as a band?
<Gold> Before I forget, I'd like to say thank you to the peopel who made this chat possible!
<Martin> Gold ..Only when we toured there
<Maryam> U spelled my name wrong, forgiven
<Marianne/Sandra> Martin. I understand, Tony's got the same superstitious habits. Onother one than, what is you all time favourite film ? And your favourite film that you were in ??
<Maike> Esther, you are right, everybody wants to know that but nobody dares to ask this question!
<Nicole> Martin, we dont hear much of Shirley lately, how is she doing ?
<Martin> Esther...There are a few legal problems
<Doris> Do you still play some music with friends some times, just for fun?
<Martin> Sandra...My fav film is...ragging bull and the best movie I have done is the Krays
<Maryam> My friend and I watch the Krays a lot, cool film, u should do more films with Gary.
<Martin> Nicole..Shirlie works on the George Michael site...WWW.aegean.net...It's a great site
<Maike> Martin, do you practice playing guitar/bass still regularily, or is this something that you never forget???
<Barb> I just watched the Krays last night, and yes, you & Gary made for a powerful duo!!
<Esther> You know something, Martin? I never thought you looked like your brother till I saw The Krays. You two were superb!!!
<Doris> That's a good idea, a film with you and Gary together would be great, especially if it's a fantastic film like The Krays
<Marianne/Sandra> Martin do you think you will ever do a film together with your brother again?
<Martin> Maike...A bass guitar isn't something you practise if your not in a band...I need the others to get any real fun out of it
<Esther> Is it true that Shirlie sang fot Wham?
<Martin> Marianne...I would love to make a movie with Gary....In fact I would love to work with Gary on anything
<Martin> Esther...Yes Shirlie was there from the start.....Did you ever see them in concert
<Maike> Martin, you are right, we have a friend who plays bass guitar while listening to some tapes, but is this real fun...?
<Doris> Did you see the report about Wham's last concert in the current 'Q'? The first time we saw Shirlie mentioned in an article as Shirlie KEMP!!!
<Martin> I still have all my guitars but at the moment they are sadly in boxes
<Maike> Gabi, where are you???I´m nearly convinced you are in the wrong room..
<Martin> Doris...I didn't see that...but it makes a change
<Martin> Who knows where ARBEN is?...I have to go in a minute but it has been fab speaking to you all..are there any more Qs before I go?
<Gold> Martin, do you have a most memorable concert?
<Doris> Hey Maryam, we're hard at work on Gary's official site, it will be on the net around the end of May
<Gold> I don't know where Arben is, it's a shame that he wasn't able to make it :( But I made a log of this chat and I will e-mail it to him.
<Gold> I think he'll be so sad that he missed you, Martin. How about sending him an email? :) Or better yet, a phone call! :)
<Marianne/Sandra> Yes, I have another one, will you be back tomorrow or any other day. If not we would like to thank you for this lovely chat, it was fun and say hi to Shirlie and the kids. A big fat kiss to you xxx

<JK> ..have lots of good pix and i will sort 'em out soon.....where's Mart?'s Mart ...
<Tim> What is a nutter?
<Gold> the one thing I don't like about the Internet is you cannot tell for sure who you are talking to :)
<Tim> So J.K, we can locate your email ip-adress.
<JK> Really? how nice.....
<Gold> Hi, I'm really Benny Andersson from Abba. Did I miss anything while I was gone? ;)
<JK> .......up The Arse.....!
<Marianne/Sandra> Oh sorry love, Martin did leave the building at 2100 UK

So this was our very first of hopefully many chats with Martin ... this transcript has been slightly edited because unfortunately nobody saved the complete thing and we had to put different sources together, we promise to get better in the future. anyway, hope you had as much fun reading everything as we had chatting!

Much to our shame we probably have to add that the mysterious 'JK' happened to be the real John Keeble ... the next surprise visitor definitely will get the benefit of the doubt!

The last words on this page belong to Martin, to give you an idea how much Mart enjoyed this chat with his fans here is a little message from him that leaves no questions open ...
"Hi guys ... It was really nice talking to everyone last night ... I haven't had that much fun for years ... I hope my spelling was OK though ... it's not my best subject ... I will be checking it every day to answer more stuff and just to say hi."
